Tell us a bit about your house.

Susanne Sevin: Hotel Zugspitze**** is centrally located, yet in a quiet section of Garmisch. It has 48 rooms and suites as well as an underground parking garage. The pedestrian zone – with its casino, conference center, and beautiful Michael-Ende park – lies only a few minutes away. Nearly all rooms and suites afford stunning Alpine views.

Some 48 employees personally cater to guests at this vacation spot. You can pamper yourself in our “Alm Well” spa and wellness oasis. A Mediterranean indoor pool with a whirlpool, three different saunas, exceptional wellness programs in comfortable surroundings as well as indoor and outdoor rest zones (Heustad’l [hay-filled room with thick blankets] and sunbathing lawn) are available for guests’ enjoyment and relaxation. We offer a five-course evening meal (with selected wines) as well as à la carte dining featuring regional products in the “Joseph Naus Stub’n,” a cozy restaurant decorated in country house style.

In 2009, an additional restaurant was built, “Zugspitz Stad’l.” Amidst very modern Alpine decor guests can enjoy regional specialties, coffee and cake, and Bavarian delicacies. In the evening, it serves as a bar where guests can unwind over a glass of wine or one of our cocktails. There is also a sunny terrace for alfresco dining in the summer.

What is your background and what are your responsibilities at the hotel?

Susanne Sevin: After completing my training as a specialist in the hotel business, I went to South Africa to gain new experience for my professional future. Since 2012, I’ve been employed by the hotel as a restaurant specialist, primarily responsible for taking care of guests, planning and organizing events, monitoring incoming and outgoing goods, and handling queries related to food and beverages. I’m also involved in wine selection. In addition to my job at the hotel, I’m completing courses to become a state-certified teacher.

What do you particularly enjoy about working with wine?

Susanne Sevin: My interest in wine came about purely out of curiosity. Now I’m keen on discovering what’s in and behind every bottle. I’m particularly interested in the challenge of finding the right wine for each guest. Wine is a very broad subject. I find it fascinating to constantly discover something new and the more experience I gain, the more I want to learn.

How did your contact with Balthasar Ress come about and what do like about us and our wines?

Susanne Sevin: My contact came about through Mr. Rainer Schnödt, our wine representative, who is always open to questions and has just the right answers. He introduced us to our first BR wines and also gave us the flyer about vine leases. That prompted us to add additional wines from the estate as our house wines. I particularly appreciate the estate’s ever friendly and helpful staff; the flexibility in setting up visits to the estate; and the outstanding quality of the wines. I also find it fascinating that the estate is run by the fifth generation of the founding family.

What have you always wanted to tell us as a wine estate?

Susanne Sevin:

Thank you...

...that you produce such high-quality, first-class wines as part of your family tradition.

...that you’re always there to answer our questions.

...that we can offer our guests something really special, such as your wines with our dessert medleys.

...that there is Weingut Balthasar Ress.
