Wine of the month June 2013

The VDP wine auction at the former monastery Kloster Eberbach is an annual highlight of the year in the Rheingau. This year, we're offering a truly special wine - a wine produced exclusively for this auction: "R" (vintage 2012). The "R" stands for Rüdesheim and the site Berg Rottland. For many decades, the Ress family has owned vineyard parcels on the Rüdesheimer Berg, including several in Rottland, which were not classified in 1999. At that time, the must weight of the grapes at harvest played a decisive role in determing which vineyards or parcels thereof qualified to be classified as a top site (Erstes Gewächs). Today, barely 15 years later, the climate and external parameters have fundamentally changed. Some of the Rheingau's most exciting wines originate from nonclassified sites - such as our "R." An incredibly expressive and powerful exemplar of the Rüdesheimer Berg. This wine is a limited edition available exclusively in magnums (@ 1.5 liters). If you are interested in this wine, there is an opportunity to sample it on Wednesday, 14. August, in our Weinbar & Vinothek in Wiesbaden. Our estate manager Dirk Würtz will also be on hand from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. to personally present this "little treasure."

 

The wine auction, a fantastic event, and its very special atmosphere are not to be missed. Only very select, particulary fine wines of a vintage are featured at the auction. This year's auction of top-quality VDP wines takes place on Saturday, 14 September, in Kloster Eberbach.
