In those days, the international wine trade - merchants and restaurateurs - naturally gave the renowned châteaux of Bordeau top billing on their lists. Margaux, Lafite, Palmer, and all the then-famous names were already highly valued wares. Yet, a look at these lists reveals something quite interesting. German Rieslings were also listed, and often, they were considerably more expensive than their "Grand Cru" counterparts.

 

One of the most famous merchants of the day - Berry Bros & Co. - in London issued a price list in November 1896 that confirms the above. We've produced an offset reprint of this list (poster size: 60 x 43 cm/23.6 x 16.9 in.).
