Message from Christian Ress March 2013

The history of the wine estate began as small branch operation of Hotel Ress in Hattenheim, a large hotel in its day. Today, under new ownership and the name Kronenschlösschen, it is still esteemed well beyond the borders of the Rheingau. We want to resume this tradition.

The new project that we've foreshadowed in earlier newsletters will be a step in this direction and a real highlight. On 4 April 2013, we're opening our Balthasar Ress "Weinbar & Vinothek" in downtown Wiesbaden. Our family operated the renowned beer and wine restaurant "Mutter Engel" in Wiesbaden back in the 19th and 20th centuries. With our new enterprise, we've come full circle.

For weeks, renovations in a former shop have been in high gear (pictures and video) in order to create an attractive ambience in which our guests can enjoy our products with pleasure. As in the renovation of our wine cellar for the wineBANK, we're using extremely high-quality materials and trying to set a new standard in product presentation. We've opted to store and present the finest wines in wine climate cabinets by Gaggenau rather than use conventional shelving.

Six days of the week, you can sample and purchase or order (at ex cellar prices) all the Ress wines and a few selected wines from friends' estates, as well as enjoy diverse little delicacies in our flagship store Balthasar. Here, too, we feel the origin of the products - special cheeses and aged hams - is of great importance. They are all, without exception, handcrafted and high-quality products. Furthermore, you can expect theme evenings and tastings, high-class wine accessories, and distinctive wine- and brandy-based drinks.

The Weinbar & Vinothek will be managed by two professional restaurateurs, Nina Baumgärtner and Carina Diepenbrock. Both have many years of experience in managerial positions in the restaurant trade, most recently, as managers of the restaurant Burg Crass in Eltville am Rhein.

Last but not least, I'd like to mention an important event in May: our vintage presentation. This year, at two venues and on two dates. First, at our Weinbar & Vinothek in Wiesbaden on Saturday, 4 May,; and again, at our winery in Hattenheim on Sunday, 5 May,.
