Employee profile: Dirk Würtz

 

In addition to making wine, Dirk Würtz is known well beyond the Rhineland as a blogger who doesn’t shy from rubbing people the wrong way now and then with his outspoken opinions about German viticulture. Whether as a lecturer at the oenological school in Geisenheim or as a contributor to the texts and films on the website stern.de-Weinschule, he shares his experience and knowledge of the world of wine with great enthusiasm.


As estate manager, he makes decisions that affect both vineyard and cellar – he pulls all the strings. He has an overview of every step of production, and with Christian Ress, he has considerable input on defining the estate’s style of wine. The commitment to uncompromisingly dry Rieslings, despite the overall trend toward wines with more residual sweetness, is not least attributable to Dirk Würtz.
