Awards for Balthasar Ress wines!

Winning two awards at the "International Wine Challenge 2008" is probably "extraordinary," considering the huge number of samples submitted. Of the more than 40,000 wines tasted under the chairmanship of Tim Atkin, Charles Metcalfe, Sam Harrop, Derek Smedley and co-chairman Bob Campbell, "only" 1,257 wines received a silver medal - we received two, for our

2007 Hattenheimer Schützenhaus Riesling Kabinett, and
2006 Hattenheimer Nussbrunnen Riesling Auslese.

And that's not all. We also received high marks for two of our Riesling wines in Wine Spectator - an achievement "off the beaten path" as Goethe would say:

2006 "Von Unserm-S" Rheingau Riesling trocken - 88 points, and
2006 Hattenheimer Nussbrunnen Rheingau Riesling Beerenauslese - 89 points.

In Hamburg, Germany, the magazine VIVRE rated our
2007 "Von Unserm-S" Rheingau Riesling trocken
with a "very good" and at the ProWein trade fair in Düsseldorf, our
2006 "Von Unserm" Rheingau Riesling trocken
was a winner in the category "light and agreeable - white wines with up to 12% alcohol by volume."

In the long-run, though, it's nice to know that most of these wines will follow the beaten path to reach wine enthusiasts around the world.
