Wine of the month: January 2012

In spite of the challenging weather conditions of vintage 2010, the grapes for this 2010 Hattenheim Nussbrunnen Riesling trocken (Erste Lage) were picked very late and very selectively. After a 24-hour period of maceration (with stems), the grapes were pressed and underwent spontaneous fermentation. The wine was bottled, without being fined, in the summer of 2011. Anticipated aging potential: at least fifteen years.

This extremely dry wine is marked by perceptible mineral tones. Cool and clear on the palate, it has good depth and a long finish. This is a wine that will meet high expectations. It is available in 0.375-liter bottles, although dry wines of this caliber are rarely found in half bottles.

We highly recommend decanting this 2010 Hattenheim Nussbrunnen Riesling.
