Surely one of the most difficult vintages of the past twenty years was 2006. Fungal disease was rampant. As a result, it was a very painstaking harvest and put growers under tremendous pressure to bring in the crop as quickly as possible. Yet, those who picked very selectively were able to harvest grapes that provided a real cornucopia of fantastic, lusciously sweet wines. Today, we'd like to offer you one such exceptional wine: 2006 Erbach Marcobrunn Riesling Auslese.

The Marcobrunn site lies halfway between Erbach and Hattenheim and is one of the three world-renowed "Brunnen," or spring vineyards. The medium-heavy, marl soils lend the wines a very individual character: rather powerful and complex. Of the three Brunnen sites, the wines from Marcobrunn are the most vigorous.

Just for you, we are offering this wine in half bottles. It is the perfect quantity for this type of wine. Lusciously sweet wines are good partners with many types of food. In general, they are recommended with cheese or desserts, although the latter is not usually a breathtaking match since the sweetness of the dessert and that of the wine neutralize one another. Why not try something different, with a hearty dish, such as a stew, or with a sauerbraten. You'll be pleasantly surprised...
