Message from Christian Ress February 2014

As we've already reported, vintage 2013 was one of our smallest crops in recent years, yet probably one of the most interesting, too. During our tasting tour through the cellar, we stood nearly in reverence before some of the casks. Our enormous willingness to take risks and play the nerve-wracking game of "wait and see" during the harvest just might have paid off. What's lying in cask is quite promising.

We're especially proud of a wine that we haven't produced in quite some time...not in a decade, to be precise...and not on a regular basis before then. We're referring to an Auslese from the site Oestricher Doosberg. Our estate's history literally began with this parcel in Doosberg and the parcel "Stellwerk" in the Hattenheimer Engelmannsberg site. In 2013, we once again produced a wine from the Doosberg site - very classic, very old-fashioned...from very selectively picked grapes that underwent spontaneous fermentation in large, mature oak casks. My father is particularly pleased that we're reviving this traditional wine. It will probably make its market debut in May...fingers crossed! It's something to look forward to.

Last but not least, a reminder that this year's "Schlemmerwoche" (gourmet week) will take place from 25 April to 4 May. We'll be cooking and barbecuing tasty food and presenting our wines at the estate manor (Rheinallee 7) every day. Check out our March newsletter for additional details on special offers and package deals.
