From vineyard to cellar
The whims of nature never fail to amaze me. All in all, we’re very
satisfied with the results of this year’s blossoming. Looking at
the calendar, I’d say we’re in for a late harvest. At least
compared with earlier years. In this case, “late” means
normal...early October. The norm is 100 days between blossoming and
harvest.
Last month, I had a good feeling about how things are
developing. Up until now, that hasn’t changed. I’m pleased with
what I’m seeing now. Particularly about the number of clusters. We
need everything but a short crop. Work in the vineyard is, of course,
in full swing, seven days a week. Now, right after blossoming, we’re
beginning to remove leaves in the grape zone, manage foliage; soil
cultivation and spraying continue as well.
The fact that we’re
still putting our ecologically friendly practices into place doesn’t
make things easier. But that doesn’t matter. Only the results are
what count.
