From vineyard to cellar

of which I’ve never personally experienced before. We began picking Riesling on the first of October and have now harvested nearly half of our Riesling vines. When I look around in the vineyards, it seems that we’re among the slowest this year. Most of the crop in the Rheingau has already been picked, and even the region’s viticultural authorities say that this year’s vintage is on the homestretch.

The grapes for our everyday, regional wines are slowly, quietly fermenting in the cellar. We’re taking a few days off to take advantage of the Indian summer weather. This year’s harvest will certainly run well into November, not least because the aromas are still developing and have yet to reach the peak of perfection. Despite months of difficult conditions in 2012, it seems that we’re in for quite a decent and successful conclusion after all.”
