Since vintage 2009, we  have made enormous efforts to considerably improve the quality of our wines by focusing more on bringing forth terroir-driven characteristics, thereby producing more authentic wines that are more closely associated with their respective appellation of origin. These wines are the mirror image of their origin: they reflect our vineyards, the region in which we live, and, of course, the people who produce them. Everything that one normally sums up in the concept of terroir.

For this reason, we already began bottling a portion of our dry great growths in the state they were in right after fermentation. We closely monitored the development of these wines by tasting them on a regular basis.

Based on this experience, we decided to continue on this path with vintage 2010. Our Erste Lage wines from the Nussbrunnen, Schlossberg, and Rottland sites from vintage 2010 are the most authentic wines that we had ever produced. We weren’t the only ones that believed in the merit of this philosophy. Tastings with wine professionals, journalists, and not least, with you, the wine enthusiasts, overwhelmingly confirmed our thinking. These 2010 wines do not yet bear the designation Erstes Gewächs (first growth). This is a major step for us, not only because it means that we will not be permitted to participate in certain VDP presentations featuring Erstes (and/or Grosses) Gewächs wines. Yet, we believe in rigor and consistency, and ultimately, in the success of this philosophy. Our highest goal is and will remain to offer you the most authentic wines possible.

You can already ensure your suppy of our strictly limited wines from our Erste Lagen (top sites) – Nussbrunnen, Schlossberg, and Rottland – from vintage 2010.Effective immediately, you have an opportunity to order these wines before their official market launch.

 

Place your order no later than 15 September 2011 via info@balthasar-ress.de and you’ll receive a ten percent discount from the regular list price.

 

Delivery will take place soon thereafter.

Even when these wines are officially launched, we earnestly hope that buyers will heed our advice with regard to additional bottle aging. We are convinced that these wines should “rest” until the following spring in order to provide you with the greatest pleasure possible.
