Balthasar Ress on Tour October 2013

Christian Ress was on what are probably the most beautiful beaches of the world as he traveled for more than a week with our local partners in the Maldives. His conclusion: the Maldives are truly a paradise. At least for those on vacation. Living and working there is another matter. But read for yourself what he had to say.

"I've had some great experiences here during my tour of the Maldives, and I've even managed to have an in-depth look behind the scenes in many cases.

Those who believe, for example, that the Maldives are the ultimate paradise (and at first glance, it seems to be true - I can attest to that!!) and who are yearning to switch to a career in the hospitality branch should head this way...you'll be welcomed with open arms.

In fact, it's a huge problem to recruit qualified personnel for the resorts. Above all, for management positions. They're trying to find well-trained hotel staff from Europe (which are said to be the best), but this seems to be very difficult. Given all the breathtaking natural beauty of the islands, most people underestimate the loneliness that inevitably sets in soon. Managers who come alone are likely to experience a personal crisis at some point in time after seeing the "honeymoon crowd" kissing and cuddling or after watching all the couples getting married on the beach. On the other hand, those who come with their family quickly realize how problematic everyday family life can be...because the nearest school or doctor or cinema or store is up to 800 km (500 miles) away...that's several hours by speedboat or seaplane. Most quit before the probation period ends. Only very few get accustomed to life in this seeming paradise."
