The VDP pyramid-shaped classification model of 2006 is a milestone in terrioir-oriented viticulture in Germany. The organization of our portfolio has been based on this model for years.
ERSTE LAGE / GRAND CRUS
- From the best vineyards of Germany
- Ranging from dry Grosse Gewächse to Prädikat wines with fruity, ripe sweetness
The wines originate from a site's absolutely finest, narrowly demarcated parcels with discernible
terroir qualities, and comply with designated (permissible) grape varieties and taste profiles.
Maximum yield of 50 hl/ha. Selective harvesting by hand. Minimum starting must weight equivalent
to Spätlese. First release: 1 September for white wines, red wines a year later.
CLASSIFIED SINGLE VINEYARDS
- Only wines from traditional vineyards of superior quality bear the name of a vineyard site.
Classified sites comprise a select, small group of traditional vineyards that have a distinctive character.
This constitutes a fraction of the multitude of vineyard names permitted by law. No restrictions with
regard to taste profile. Maximum yield of 65 hl/ha. Designated grape varieties and minimum starting
must weight are determined by regional VDP associations.
ESTATE (HOUSE) AND VILLAGE WINES
- High-quality, basic wines
- Wines that reflect their regional terroir
At least 80% of an estate's holdings are planted with traditional grape varieties typical
of their region, as recommended by the VDP. Maximum yield of 75 hl/ha. Minimum starting must
weight (higher than prescribed by law) is determined by the regional associations.
Winery webcam
Our
webcam sends live pictures from the Hattenheimer Nussbrunnen vineyard, our press house, and our bottling hall. Webcam transmissions end when there is longer sufficient light, and the final pictures of the day are sent at night.
