News December 2016

Christmas lies just around the corner...a time of the year that affords us an opportunity for a preliminary review of 2016. As in every year, Mother Nature kept us on our toes.

We were forced to cope with everything from extremely high rainfall during the harvest to periods of heat and drought, as well as frost and hail...conditions that posed an unprecedented challenge of existential importance to us in our efforts to implement plant protection measures. Peronospora (downy mildew) infected our vines to an extent that no one, not even the local viticultural authorities, has ever before experienced. Nevertheless, we managed, and we’re proud that we were able to master the situation. The quality of the crop was excellent and the volume even greater than in 2015. Considering that 2016 was the first year that our vines were cultivated according to certified organic practices, it was quite a remarkable feat that everything turned out as well as it did. In all, however, we are extremely grateful to our entire team and their untiring efforts.

Slowly but surely our efforts are paying off. Your increasing interest in us and our wines bears witness to this. We sincerely thank you for this. We need fans like you!

The outstanding reviews we’ve received for our 2015 wines in the trade press also indicate that we’re moving in the right direction. In recent years, we’ve worked hard to number among the top wine estates of our region. Many of our wines even rank among the finest of Germany.

Robert Parker considers our 2015 VDP.GROSSE GEWÄCHSE to be the three best in the Rheingau. Our Pinots fare equally well in the highly respected Gault&Millau Wine Guide. The professional tasting team of the Wein-Plus guide ranks our 2015 Nussbrunnen and our 2014 Caviar as the best in all of Germany.

We are pleased and honored by such reviews...and extremely thankful...even humble. We know that these critiques are not something that can be taken for granted.

Special Holiday Gift Ideas

If you’re still searching for that special holiday gift, we’ve got some interesting suggestions...starting with our popular grapevine lease. You can lease a vine for yourself or someone else in the Hattenheimer Engelmannsberg site in the Rheingau or – for an extremely unusual, unique gift, lease a vine in our vineyard on the island of Sylt.

If you’d like to lease more than 20 vines, we’ll be happy to supply the individual deeds with your company’s logo.

Please note our opening hours for the Christmas and New Year’s holidays.
