As always, the times for wine-growers are exciting and this year is no exception.

Virtually most of Europe was hit by a hard frost at the end of April. By then, grape development was considerably further along than in recent years. The consequences were enormous, in part, dramatic. Many regions were hit so hard that growers expect a minimal crop. We were affected, too. Fortunately, we got off lightly. Damage was less dramatic than originally anticipated. Blossoming proceeded without problems and current weather conditions are encouraging tremendous growth in the vineyards. In the meantime, we could use some precipitation. Once again, it’s far too dry.

Truly dramatic for us - in the positive sense of the word - is the most recent award that we received. The renowned German-based wine guide Wein-Plus has honored us for our 2015 collection with the “Collection of the Year” award. This title is conferred on “...those wine estates that have positively impressed us recently with particularly individualistic wines and collections - and that we’re certain are well on their way to establishing themselves as absolute top estates in their respective regions.”

In recent years, we’ve received enormously positive reviews for our wines. Always for individual, quite specific wines. The “Collection of the Year” is a large step forward. It’s not not only for one wine, but rather for all. Wein-Plus adds: “The development the wine estate has shown within only a few years under co-proprietor Christian Ress and estate manager Dirk Würtz is more than astonishing. Today, the large estate is one of the flagships of the region; its Rieslings and Pinots number among the absolute finest in the nation. The estate is also at the forefront with regard to ‘orange wines’ - the wines made from grapes fermented on the skins that are so named for the orange tinge in their color. And no one should expect the estate to simply rest on its laurels.”

For us, this award is definitely the highlight of the past few years. We’re extremely happy and proud. Particularly proud of our team who deliver outstanding performances on a daily basis. Naturally, this is an incentive for us to continue our uncompromising efforts with regard to quality. The first wines of 2016 lead us to believe that this, too, will be a very successful vintage.
