Lancing College Review
Christian Ress (Second's 1991) provided a wonderful setting for the scene of the first OL and Lancing parents' social evening in Germany.
The Ress Family have been making wine in Hattenheim on the Rhine since 1870, which makes Christian himself a fifth generation winemaker. The evening started outside In the courtyard with a glass of sparkling Riesling and then we all adjourned to tha cellar for a comprehensive tasting of six of the estate's finesl wines.
After supper in the elegant dining room, Lena Schumacher (2004 Handford) introduced Richard Biggs, Acting Head Master, to all the German guests and talked fondly of her lime at Lancing. Catherine Morgan (Sanderson's 1978, OL Development Officer) thanked everybody for making the evening such a Special occasion in the Lancing calendar and hoped that both current and future German OLs would continue to celebrate the Lancing connection through events like this. Gradually the evening came to a close, although it appeared difficult for people to drag themselves away after experiencing such wonderful German hospitality and renewing old friendships!
